AOMORI PREFECTURE
Aomori is located at the top of Honshu, Japan's largest island, and is neighbour to the prefectures of Hokkaido, Akita and Iwate. In December 2010 the Tohoku bullet train service came to Aomori City, and takes just over three hours to reach Tokyo. Aomori Airport runs domestic and international flights daily. Hokkaido is also easily reachable by the underwater Seikan tunnel in under two hours. With a population of 1,373,164 Aomori has a mix of metropolis and inaka, and is definitely a great place to explore rural Japan.
